25 and 26 August

This weekend's Classical Break is presented by the Vicar of St John's , Midsomer Norton, Christopher Chiplin. It's a programme of music on the subject of ceremonial music and was first presented as a lunchtime concert at St John's earlier in the year.

PLAYLIST

MONTEVERDI Introduction to his opera, Orpheus. First performed in 1607, this track is the processional music for the entrance to the theatre of his patron, the Duke of Mantua, which just happened to be the first piece in the opera score.

WILLIAM CHILD / HANDEL Music for the coronation of George III.

SS WESLEY Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace.

BELLS OF LONDON The peals rung all over London after the coronation of George II. WILLIAM CROFT (1678-1727) Te Deum.

HANDEL Fireworks Suite.

 WILLIAM CROFT Funeral Music.

STANFORD Beati quorum via.

WIDOR Allegro vivace, Toccata from the 5th Organ Symphony.

Thanks to Christopher and Diane Chiplin for all their help, encouragement and contributions during my time at Somer Valley FM.
