This week's Classical Break consists of music inspired by rivers. There are pieces by Chinese composers, Yin Chengzong, Chu Wanhua, Sheng Lihong and Liu Zhuang - The 'Yellow River Concerto'; Claude Debussy - En Bateau from the Suite for 2 pianos; a song - Old Father Thames, from 1933, sung by the bass-baritone Peter Watson; Ronald Binge's orchestral piece, The Watermill; There is a Willow Grows Alant a Brook - from Shakespear's Hamlet; a Gospel song, Deep River; Otterburn - another song, this time for tenor and piano by John Jeffreys; an orchestral piece by Charles Ives - The Housatonic at Stockbridge; Two arrangements of Japanese and Chinese songs by Edmund Rubbra; and finally, Wenlock Edge, by Raph Vaughan Williams.

Classical Break 11th and 12th June 2011
This week's Classical Break is a recording of the concert given in St John's Church, Midsomer Norton, on May 25th, by the Somer Valley Singers, under the baton of Heather Hill. the show lasts one hour and is first transmitted on Saturday, 11th June on Somer Valley FM and online at somervalleyfm.co.uk/audio.html with a repeat on Sunday, 12th June at 3pm.
